    Local Officials Join Williston Park American Legion Installation - September 28, 2013

    Williston Park American Legion Post #144 recently held their Installation of Officers for the 2013-2014 Legion Year at post headquarters located in Williston Park. Nassau County Clerk Maureen O’Connell, Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano and other local officials were on hand to witness the installation of newly elected Post Commander, Frank Oliveri and other installed officers for the coming year and to congratulate them for their dedication and service to the community. Clerk O’Connell presented outgoing Commander Frank Busa with a County Citation in recognition of his outstanding dedication. Everyone enjoyed a fun and festive evening.

    Nassau County Clerk Maureen O’Connell recently joined local area officials at the Albertson VFW Post 5253 to honor some of the remarkable women who live, work and volunteer in the 19th Assembly District for the annual “Women of Distinction” awards ceremony. Clerk O’Connell was honored to recognize the women throughout the 19th Assembly District who have contributed so much to their local communities whether it was in the fields of business, community and civic affairs, education, government, healthcare or humanitarianism.



    County Clerk Joins Onam Celebration - September 28, 2013

    Nassau County Clerk Maureen O’Connell, Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano and other local officials joined members of Nassau County’s Indian community during their Onam Celebration. Indian-American residents came together with community leaders at all levels of government to celebrate “Onam”. Onam is the biggest and most important festival of the state of Kerala in India. According to popular legend, the festival is celebrated to welcome King Mahabali, whose spirit is said to visit Kerala at the time of Onam. The rich cultural heritage of Kerala comes out in its best form and spirit during the ten day long festival. Among the honorees who were presented with citations at this year’s Onam Celebration were Benjamin George, Rev. Fr. John Alummoottil, Cemat Shaji, Cherian Maharaja, Dr. Annamma Zchariah, Rosy John and Mariamma John.

    County Clerk Speaks at CSEA Nassau Retirees Meeting - September 28, 2013

    Nassau County Clerk Maureen O’Connell was a guest speaker at the CSEA Nassau Retirees Meeting at Levittown Town Hall in Hicksville. Clerk O’Connell spoke with residents about the services the Clerk’s office provides to the community including the processing and maintenance of the County’s land and court records. Another service discussed was the recording of Veteran Certificate of Release and Discharge (DD-214) papers free of charge. As an incentive for veterans to take advantage of this service, Clerk O’Connell talked about the Nassau Veterans Recognition Program which offers Veterans discounts at participating businesses throughout Nassau County for recording their discharge papers. Veterans were encouraged to file their discharge papers with the County Clerk.

    Clerk O’Connell also advised residents about mass mailings for costly deed retrieval services, some of which cost 1000% more than the Clerk’s Office fees, and to disregard such offers. These deceptive solicitations advise homeowners they need to purchase a certified copy of their deed which actually can be obtained directly from the Clerk’s office for a nominal fee. She cautioned homeowners to be aware of other types of scams seen at the Clerk’s office and initiatives she has undertaken to assist and protect residents. Clerk O’Connell reminded the seniors to be wary of solicitations looking for any type of personal identifying information.

The fair provided an enjoyable, fun filled day for families and friends with something for people of all ages including food, rides, games and special attractions.

    BOY SCOUT TROOP # 298 HONORS EAGLE SCOUT EAMONN JOHN LENNON - September 22, 2013

    Nassau County Clerk Maureen O’Connell joined Boy Scout Troop #298 of the Theodore Roosevelt Council, Nassau County, New York at their Eagle Scout Court of Honor Ceremony for Eamonn John Lennon of New Hyde Park. County Clerk O’Connell, along with other area officials, the leaders and families of Troop #298 honored this outstanding young man who has demonstrated great commitment to community service. Clerk O’Connell presented Eamonn with a County Citation in recognition of his achievements. His dedication and many accomplishments earned him the rank of Eagle Scout which is the highest award in the Boy Scouts of America. Congratulations to Eamonn and the entire Troop #298 family on this special occasion and for all their great works on behalf of the community.

    Nassau County Clerk Maureen O’Connell and Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano joined area officials and community residents at the annual Candlelight Ceremony observing National POW/MIA Recognition Day at the Veterans Memorial located in Eisenhower Park.

    Community residents joined Veterans, military personnel and area officials to honor the sacrifice made by both Prisoners of War and those who have gone Missing in Action while protecting our freedoms in service to our Great Nation.

    COUNTY CLERK ATTENDS NICHOLAS “BUD” HALLER MEMORIAL - September 19, 2013

    The Williston Park Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce of the Williston’s recently held a memorial service in honor of Nicholas “Bud” Haller who passed away in January. Nassau County Clerk Maureen O’Connell, along with other area officials, joined the Haller family and members of the Williston Park Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce to remember this outstanding individual for his dedication, commitment and service to his community. He moved to the Williston Park area in 1955 and immediately became involved with St. Aidan Church, where he served as an usher, was a member of the Holy Name Society and volunteered as a CYO football coach. He then got involved in local politics, serving as a trustee and deputy mayor of the Village of Williston Park from 1970-1972. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, Corpus Christi Council, past president of the Williston Park Rotary and past vice president of the Chamber of Commerce of the Willistons, a longtime member of American Legion Williston Post 144 and a trustee of the Williston Park Library. To honor him, a tree was planted in the Williston Park Gazebo in his memory.

    COUNTY CLERK JOINS PROSPECT SCHOOL RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY - September 09, 2013

    Nassau County Clerk Maureen O’Connell joined in the “topping out” celebration for the new Winthrop-University Hospital Research and Academic Center on Mineola Boulevard. Area officials, and the Winthrop community, watched as the final structural beam was put in place for the center. The four-story research facility will house research development into obesity and diabetes as well as illnesses related to aging, including, Alzheimer’s disease and arthritis. Clerk O’Connell, who is also a registered nurse, was honored to be on hand to witness such a momentous occasion.



    COUNTY CLERK JOINS PROSPECT SCHOOL RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY - September 09, 2013

    Nassau County Clerk Maureen O’Connell, Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano and NYS Senator Kemp Hannon along with other area officials joined in the ribbon cutting ceremony in honor of the reopening of Prospect Elementary School in Hempstead. The school, which was closed for the past 10 years because of structural issues, was re-opened after an extensive renovation project. Clerk O’Connell was honored to participate in the ceremony and wished everyone a successful new school year.

    ATTENTION SENIORS: FREE FLU SHOTS - September 06, 2013

    Nassau County Clerk Maureen O’Connell is pleased to announce the Senior Citizen Flu Shot program which provides free flu shots to local seniors. This year’s program will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2013 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at American Legion Post No. 144, 730 Willis Avenue, Williston Park, New York. Appointments are necessary and can be made by calling (516) 571-6377.

    This flu shot program is provided through the generous support of North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System. County Clerk Maureen O’Connell is pleased to co-sponsor this event along with American Legion Post No. 144, the Chamber of Commerce of the Willistons and the Villages of Williston Park and East Williston.

    Residents 60 and over are particularly vulnerable to complications arising from the flu virus and County Clerk O’Connell encourages all seniors from local communities to take advantage of this free program. Anyone interested in being vaccinated should be sure to schedule an appointment.
